East Vancouver is an incredible city to the east end of downtown, giving it the advantage of being close enough to the city’s vibrant nightlife, yet still far enough for those who enjoy the feel of a quaint, quiet community. Founded in the 1880s, East Vancouver has been a popular spot for diverse immigrants to move to, making the small area a melting pot of delicious food and different cultures, not to mention the home of many fun parks.

East Vancouver Restaurants

Because there is such a diverse population in East Vancouver, the food has become adventurous, especially to those that live in the area. One of the most popular restaurants in the entire city is Phnom Penh, which features a fun combination of Classic Vietnamese & Cambodian food. If you’re in the mood for something a bit more familiar, start simple with rustic Italian fare at the lovely, Campagnolo Roma.

East Vancouver Community

Not many cities have a sense of community, but if there’s one place in the world that can claim a cohesive community identity, it’s East Vancouver. With dynamic urban neighbourhoods as well as a strong population of politically engaged youth, the area has as much of a political identity as it does culturally. The city produces its own newspaper, Republic of East Vancouver, which frequently organizes social activism like The Car Free Festival and other fun events.

East Vancouver Parks & Recreation

East Vancouver is a dense area, but it still manages to squeeze in a variety of interesting urban parks. Whether it be the beautiful Renfrew Park, which is located on East 22nd Street or the lovely Playland Amusement Park, which is always free of charge and open to the public for family fun. You’ll be sure to always be interested in something wherever you go. The city also has a large artist community, making it even easier to relax in places like The Vancouver East Cultural Centre, which hosts community poetry, and the Eastside Culture Crawl, which is an annual event where local artists present their work on Main Street.
